Benedicte is part of the Run for Parkinson volunteers since 2015. Each year, she helps coordinating the organization of this big event.

Tell me about yourself, your hobbies, your work history?

I love beautiful things and discovering beautiful things: art, good food, travelling, reading…

Why the decision to volunteer?

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve enjoyed helping people. When I can and have the time, I am always ready to help.

Why volunteering for the Demoucelle Parkinson Charity (DPC)?

I admire Patrick and Anne-Marie for their professionalism, their commitment and their positive view of the world. Despite Patrick’s illness, they continue to go for it. But a day only has 24 hours; by helping them with the practical organisation of Run for Parkinson, they can focus on those things where they can really make a difference, and make time to enjoy as well.

What has been your biggest satisfaction when volunteering for DPC?

Thanks to DPC, I’ve met some great people: we’ve been working with a regular group of volunteers for 5 years now; all very professional people, who complement each other perfectly – a winning team!

What has been your biggest frustration when volunteering for DPC?

Every year you hope to raise more funds – and if it’s less, we decide to do even more next year!

What keeps you motivated on the tough days?

Meeting interesting people. I can be incredibly inspired by a personal story, by an artist, an entrepreneur, a person with a disability, …

Which organizations are you currently involved with?

In addition to DPC, I also work as a volunteer at ToolBox vzw and coach a number of organisations with questions about governance and strategy. In addition, I have always been active in my son’s activities (hockey manager, parents’ association, etc.).

What kind of people do you most enjoy working with?

The best results are often achieved with people you don’t “click” with at first sight – I always try to be open to different opinions, different ways of thinking, … I just sometimes have a hard time with people who are very biased…
